Index cards are useful for many things, from making flashcards to study for tests to printing recipes to keep in a nice, neat recipe box. You can print index cards from MS Word easier than you think. All you need is a stack of blank index cards and a printer that will print on them (most will these days).

Change Paper Size in Word

Open Word and select the Page Layout tab. Click Size and then the bottom link in the menu that appears that says More Paper Sizes.

A menu will pop up asking for parameters. In the first drop down menu (labeled Paper Size), choose Custom Size, which is the last selection in the list.

Now, change theWidth to 5” and the Height to 3” (if you are using 4”x6” or larger index cards, the larger number is always the width and the smaller number is the height).

Photos for Mac makes it ridiculously fun to create custom greeting cards and yearly newsletters. As you may expect from any Apple product, the cards you create in Photos are extremely high quality.

The preview in the box at the bottom of the menu should show a 3×5 card. Click OK.

Have ONE main subject heading or idea per card; have a heading showing which part of the speech the card covers; are written or printed clearly using larger than usual font (so you can read them easily); have plenty of white space around each word or phrase to help them stand out; use bullet points or numbers to itemize the supporting ideas under the main.
2. Just go to the Mac App Store to learn about and download each extension. To start a project, simply select photos, an album, a memory, or even an existing project, and then choose the extension you want to use. Download third-party extensions from the Mac App Store.

You now have a perfectly typable, printable index card. Now, set the print margins on the card from the default 1” to the Narrow .5” setting by clicking Margins at the top of your screen and then choosing the third one on the list that says Narrow.

You can now type anything you want on your index card template.

You can make new index cards in this same file by clicking the Insert tab, then Page Break.

Load a stack of index cards in your printer’s print tray (some printers require you to feed one at a time) and print your way to index card happiness. Enjoy!

1. Pick a size and shape

   Click the “Layout” link at the top of the design page for a selection of potential recipe card sizes. Although “Landscape” and “Postcard” are ideal, you can choose any size and layout you wish.

2. Choose a theme

   Click the “Design” link at the top of the page, and select from a range of pre-designed themes to get the design process started. A combination of colors, images and text can speed things up, but changes are always available.
   

3. Personalize with images

   Add a picture of what your recipe should look like on the plate by adding images to your cards. Just above your draft design you will see a “+” symbol; click it to add your own image or to choose one from an online selection.

4. Describe with engaging text

   To ensure that your recipes are always prepared perfectly, list your ingredients and write the cooking instructions using the “Text” link at the top of the design screen.

5. Download, share, or print

   Once you’ve perfected the design of your card, you can share it immediately via Facebook or Twitter. Alternatively, you can download it for printing later on.
